China: Floods in Shanxi Province - Aug 1988

More than 30 counties have been hit by hailstorms since mid-June. in Lanxi, 903 persons were injured, with 170,000 people, 102 villages, and 67,700 hectares of farmland affected. More than 15 cities and counties were hit by rainstorms between 13-18 July. 18 persons were injured. Floods have ruined 345 houses, and 10,000 hectares of farmland. Inundations in 6 towns and 59,000 houses damaged dozens of water conservation facilities. (UN DHA, 18 Aug 1988)
