Afghanistan: Mudslides - Jun 1993
Disaster description
On 15 June 1993, heavy rain in Kabul triggered mudslides in the Chindawal district, south of the city center. Tons of mud and rocks crashed down on mudbrick houses. (UN DHA, 17 Jun 1993)
The staff of OSGAP (Office of the Secretary-General in Afghanistan and Pakistan), OCHA, WFP, UNICEF, and UNCHS made field assessments on-site. 80 people were reported dead, about 60 houses were destroyed, and up to 1,000 people were rendered homeless. (UN DHA, 18 Jun 1993)
