Myanmar: Fire - Aug 1989

Disaster description

On 27 July 1989, a fire broke out in the northwest township of Mandalay and was brought under control after 6 hours. One person was reportedly killed, 1,554 houses/buildings were destroyed, and 9,500 people from 1,980 household were rendered homeless. Total loss was estimated at US dollars 34 million.
