Disaster description

Heavy rain in the southern part of Bougainville island in Papua New Guinea over the 12-13 June weekend caused flooding. National disaster and emergency services report that some 14,000 people have been affected in the southwestern part of the island. Damage to roads/bridges and flooding of food gardens was reported to be extensive. (UN DHA, 17 Jun 1993)
