SITUATION

1. HEAVY UNPRECEDENTED RAINFALL THROUGHOUT IRAN CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGED IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

- KHORAM ABAD (LURISTAN PROVINCE) 31 VILLAGES CUT OFF, ROADS AND BRIDGES WASHED OFF, 200 HA AGRICULTURAL LAND DAMAGED

- GACHSARAN (KHUZISTAN PROVINCE) ROADS AND BRIDGES WASHED OUT. EXTENSIVE MATERIAL DAMAGE.

- SHAHREZA (ESFAHAN PROVINCE) 13 VILLAGES CUT OFF, 500 HOUSES DAMAGED.

1. UNDRO/UNDP RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORTS THAT MAJOR FLASH FLOODS AFFECTED LARGE PART OF SISTAN PROVINCE IN EASTERN IRAN NEAR BORDER WITH AFHGANISTAN AND PAKISTAN. INITIAL ASSESSMENT IS 117 VILLAGES TOTALLY FLOODED LEAVING 30,000 PEOPLE HOMELESS, THOUSANDS OF HECTARES OF FARMLAND DESTROYED AND MANY LIVESTOCK LOST. TRANSPORT NETWORK ALSO BEING DISRUPTED.
