Myanmar: Fire - Mar 1988

Disaster description

The northeastern town of Iasho, Shan state, 1,200 kilometres from Rangoon, was devastated by fires on 20 March 1988. First reports indicate the fire has destroyed 2,096 houses, two primary schools and killed 113 persons. More than 20,000 persons were rendered homeless, equivalent to 20 per cent of the population.
