China: Hailstorms - Mar 1991

Disaster description

A UNDRO/UNDP representative in Beijing reports that strong winds with hail and rainstorms struck Hunan province between 3 and 7 March 1991. Preliminary reports indicate the following damage: 69 people died, 1,000 people were injured with 300 hospitalized, 1,500 livestock were killed, 19,000 rooms were destroyed and 260,000 were damaged, and 500,000 hectares of crops were damaged.
