Bangladesh: Tornado - May 1993

Disaster description

A powerful tornado hit eastern Bangladesh on 13 May 1993 with a wind speed of 160km per hour. The cyclone severely affected two unions of Begumgang and Thana. 14 people reportedly died and 7,500 were made homeless. Houses in Begumgang and Thana were totally destroyed and also houses in the neighbouring unions were partially damaged. (UN DHA, 18 May 1993)
