Bangladesh: Floods - Aug 1986
Earlier today, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Bangladesh signed an agreement to launch a USD 14.444 million initiative, aimed at substantially reducing the impact of natural and man-made disasters on the people of Bangladesh over the next five years.

1. UNDRO/UNDP RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE DHAKA REPORTS FLOODS CAUSED BY MONSOON RAINS IN GANGES BASIN NORTH-WESTERN BANGLADESH DISTRICT OF RAJSHAHI.
2. WATER ROSE SHARPLY LAST TWO WEEKS AND FLOODED 1600 SQ MILES AFFECTING 100,000 PEOPLE. 4 PERSONS WERE REPORTED KILLED AND 48,500 ACRES OF CROPS DAMAGED. GOVT FLOOD FORECASTING COMMITTEE ANTICIPATES POSSIBILITY SIMILAR FLUSH FLOOD IN LATE AUGUST.
