Bangladesh: Floods - Aug 1986

Disaster description

A UNDRO/UNDP resident representative in Dhaka reported that floods were caused by monsoon rains in the Ganges basin in the north-western Bangladesh district of Rajshahi. The water rose sharply in the last two weeks and flooded 1600 sq miles affecting 100,000 people. Four persons were reportedly killed and 48,500 acres of crops were damaged. (UN DHA, 11 Aug 1986)
