In an area already affected by a food crisis, floods. Around 100,000 families have been left homeless by the rising waters. Morais Quissico, disaster coordinator for The United Methodist Church in Mozambique, has reached affected families in Zambezia province and is preparing a response.

1. HEAVY RAINS IN SOUTHERN AFRICA FROM 9 TO 11 FEBRUARY LED TO OVERFLOWING OF INCOMATI, MAPUTO, UMBELUZI RIVERS IN MAPUTO PROVINCE, MOZAMBIQUE.

2. IN LOW-LYING AREAS MAPUTO CITY, WATER ROSE ONE METER ABOVE STREET LEVEL, FLOODING WAREHOUSES, FACTORIES, HOMES, DESTROYING STOCKS OF GOODS, DAMAGING INFRASTRUCTURE (ROADS, CANALS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, PHONE AND POWER LINES).
