Disaster description

The UNDRO/UNDP representative in Manila reports that typhoon Gading (codename Peggy) hit regions i (Ilocos) iii (Central Luzon), iv (Southern Tagalos) and metro Manila on 9 July 1986. The National Weather Service, U.S.A., reports that the typhoon reached southern China. (UN DHA, 11 Jul 1986)

The UNDRP/UNDP representative in Manila reports a further increase in casualties and damage from typhoon Gading (Peggy). As of 17 July: 89 dead, 20 missing, 16 injured; 119,386 families (644,608 persons) affected; and 6,679 houses partially damaged. (UN DHA, 18 Jul 1986)
