Highlights

  • Zimbabwe is facing one of the worst droughts in 40 years, affecting an estimated 50 per cent of the population (7.6 million people) including 3.5 million children.
  • According to the 2024 Zimbabwe Livelihoods Assessment Committee (ZimLAC), the prevalence of child wasting increased from 4.1 per cent in 2023 to 4.9 per cent in 2024.
  • The protracted 2023-2024 cholera outbreak ended in June 2024, resulting in a cumulative 34,550 cholera cases and 719 deaths with case fatality ratio (CFR) of 2.1 per cent and a resurgence occurring in November 2024 having a cumulative 228 cholera cases and two deaths (CFR of 0.8 per cent) reported by 31 December 2024.
  • On 13 October 2024, Zimbabwe reported two confirmed Mpox cases with no new cases reported by 31 December 2024.
  • In 2024, UNICEF reached a total of 466,610 people with safe water, including 259,320 females, 208,281 males and 135 persons with disabilities.
