On 23rd January Medair was granted temporary
registration to begin relief operations in Zimbabwe. After almost 6 months
of waiting this is fantastic and timely news. The humanitarian crisis in
Zimbabwe continues to intensify. Queues for all essential commodities have
grown to mammoth proportions in the cities and in the rural areas where
the food crisis is hitting the hardest more and more people are turning
to eating wild foods, roots and leaves to survive. Those farmers that did
manage to plant some seed at the end of last year continue to pray for
the rains which so far have been inadequate. Within the next couple of
weeks we hope to begin a school feeding programme for the vulnerable primary
school children in 2 districts. We aim to serve meals to over 100,000 children
every day.
