Harare, Zimbabwe (PANA) - The government
of the Gulf State of Oman Wednesday donated 10,000 tons of food, worth
two million US dollars to drought victims in Zimbabwe.
An estimated 7.8 million people in Zimbabwe,
roughly half the country's population, are facing food shortages due to
drought.
Oman government representatives said the donation was in response to an appeal for international assistance by Zimbabwe.
The food channelled through the World Food Programme, which is co-ordinating the bulk of international food relief efforts in the country, is to be distributed in the southern district of Chivi, one of the areas worst hit by drought last year.
