During the reporting period, 29,547 movements were documented, and 1,197 migrants (58% female and 42% male) were interviewed at 22 Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) in Zimbabwe. Ninety-three per cent of the migrants surveyed stated they were Zimbabwean nationals and four per cent stated they were Malawians. Sixty-six per cent of the Malawian nationals were travelling from Malawi to South Africa and were involved in short-term movements. There was an 8 per cent decrease in total movements compared to the previous month. Inflows accounted for 63 per cent of observed movements, while outflows made up 37 per cent. The leading sending districts were Beitbridge (51%), Harare (12%), and Masvingo (5%), whereas the main receiving districts were Harare (30%), Beitbridge (19%), and Bulawayo (8%). Matabeleland South province reported the highest number of outflows (55%), whereas Harare province recorded the most inflows (30%). Migrants from Matabeleland South were primarily headed to Limpopo (71%) and Gauteng (22%) in South Africa. Among those arriving in Harare, 33 per cent came from Gauteng province, 14 per cent from Eastern Cape province in South Africa and 13 per cent from Lusaka province in Zambia.
The South Africa-Zimbabwe corridor had the highest number of movements (27,022) recorded over the reporting period followed by the Zambia-Zimbabwe corridor with 2,525 movements. Migrants using the South Africa-Zimbabwe corridor were mainly involved in short-term movements (52%), family reunification (26%), and long-term economic movements (20%). On the Zambia-Zimbabwe corridor, the primary types of movement were short-term movements (58%), long-term economic movements (24%), and family reunification (17%).
The Zimbabwe Department of Immigration Control recorded 165,308 entries and 154,588 exits at the Beitbridge border post, and 16,805 entries and 3,426 exits at the Chirundu border post.
