Harare is home to 2.2 million people – 47% of Zimbabwe’s urban population. With high levels of poverty and unemployment, households are increasingly vulnerable to food insecurity. With the aim of contributing to the understanding of how to assess food security in urban areas, this joint WFP and Global Food Security Cluster pilot study assesses the situation of food insecurity in Harare, exploring such themes as household expenditure, urban income generating activities, food sources, food consumption, household composition and the resultant impact these factors have upon food insecurity.
