Monthly food imports and price fluctuation
In June a total of 333,643 mt of food were imported through the ports of Aden, Al Hudaydah and Saleef. Shortage of food and high food prices are recorded in the market, which is has been affected by the ongoing conflict and the restricted movement of goods.* In June, wheat flour imports constituted 58 % of the overall food imports, with 196, 684 mt imported. On Average, wheat flour prices in June were 42% higher than pre-crisis level (137 YER/KG).
Status of the vessels at ports per month
In June, 51 vessels berthed at the ports of Al Hudaydah, Saleef and Aden, 30 % decrease from the 71 berths in May.* Additionally, 57 new vessels were granted access to Yemeni port-anchorage areas in June. Humanitarian berths accounted for 15 % of all berths in the Yemeni ports, with 8 vessels carrying food aid and non-food items.
Monthly fuel imports vs fuel needs
June saw a small decrease of fuel imports compared to May, with 135, 110 mt of fuel imported through the ports of Aden and Al Hudaydah. June imports correspond to 25% of the monthly fuel needs, estimated at 544,000 mt. Shortages of fuel in Aden have been affecting humanitarian operations in June. As a result of the recent fuel crisis, the Logistics Cluster received increased demands for diesel and is planning to transport additional diesel in Aden to enable humanitarian operations.
Average delays in entering ports (May – June 2016)
Significant delays are still experienced in the ports of Aden, Al Hudaydah and Saleef. The number of days correspond to the average time that vessels spend at anchor, waiting for berth permit. The longest delay at anchorage in June was recorded for Saleef port, with vessels waiting for berth an average of 19 days. Delays at the port can be attributed to the very limited infrastructure with a two berth capacity only, impeding rapid offloading
