Since 27 March, heavy rains and flooding have devastated the coastal areas of the Ta’iz Governorate, with flooding also hitting Aden, Abyan, Marib, Lahj, and Hodeidah Governorates. At least 15 deaths have been reported and 9 820 households (68 740 people) affected, including across 49 IDP sites.
While assessments are still ongoing, critical infrastructure - electricity, water systems, communications, transport and mobility networks – has suffered severe damage. IDP temporary shelters, crops and livestock have been destroyed while waterborne disease risks are rising due to contaminated water sources and damaged WASH facilities. Many affected areas are near frontlines, increasing risks from landmines.
ECHO partners present in the areas are assessing needs and delivering emergency support. However, access remains a key challenge due to the heavy rains and road cut-offs, affecting the ability of teams to reach some locations in a timely manner.
