Yemen: Sa'ada Crisis Donor Update No. 1

I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

- The Yemen Flash Appeal was launched on 2 September, requesting US$23.7 million to meet the needs of 150,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) until end December 2009

- Humanitarian activities beyond this time will be incorporated in a separate humanitarian response strategy document for 2010

- The main areas of requirements are food (US$5.3 million); Shelter, Non-Food Items and Camp Coordination (US$4.5 million); Protection and Emergency Education (US$ 2.9 million); Nutrition (US$2.5 million); and Health (US$2.3 million)

- The Yemen Flash Appeal, launched on 2 September for $23.7 million, is funded at about 16 percent, with additional pledges of $3.5 million. All donations should be reported the Financial Tracking Service via fts@reliefweb.int

- Humanitarian access remains very limited, which is hampering relief efforts. Protection of civilians is also of grave concern, both for IDPs and those who have not been able to flee the conflict areas

- Where access has been possible, the humanitarian response has been swift, and the distribution of food and non-food items is ongoing
