OVERVIEW
In 2023, the protracted conflict in Yemen was compounded by climate change induced natural disasters such as cyclones, floods and heavy rains; forcing 319,445 people to flee their homes, many who have been displaced multiple times or living in rural communities.
Climate induced disasters affected 239,617 individuals. intersecting with the ongoing armed conflict that affected 79,828 displaced individuals, underscoring the heightened vulnerabilities in hard-to-reach areas.
The Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) Cluster brought together humanitarian organizations and United Nations agencies across twenty severely affected governorates for rapid delivery of lifesaving assistance.
In response, the RRM cluster enrolled 319,445 individuals affected by both harsh climatic conditions and the ongoing armed conflict.
Life saving assistance was provided to 98 percent of registered individuals, with a notable focus on addressing the specific vulnerabilities faced by women and girls. Among those assisted, 51 percent were women and girls who received essential supplies, including dignity kits to address their unique needs.
Seventy-five percent of those assisted through the RRM were displaced due to climate related natural disasters, while 25 percent were individuals displaced due to the conflict.
