INFORMATION REPORT NO. 1

1. UNDP/UNDRO RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORTS THAT FLOODS
OCCURRED IN SOCOTRA ISLAND FOLLOWING EXTREMELY HEAVY RAINFALL.
GOY/UN (FAO) ASSESSMENT MISSION VISITED ISLAND LATE DECEMBER AND
FOUND 6,000 FAMILIES WERE RENDERED HOMELESS. OFFICIAL ESTIMATED
LOSS INCLUDES 6,050 HOUSES, 12,000 DATE TREES, 4,900 HEADS OF
LIVESTOCK, 300 TONS OF DRIED FISH, AND FISHING BOATS.

2. GOVERNMENT HAS NOT REQUESTED APPEAL FOR INTERNATIONAL
ASSISTANCE.
