Overview
On 7 May, Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel al-Jubeir, announced a five-day humanitarian pause for Yemen with the date to be announced. Precise details of the pause have not been communicated. An effective pause is required in order to reach more conflict affected people with much needed assistance, and to enable people trapped in conflict areas to leave, to seek safety.
Widespread violence continues in Aden. Heavy clashes reportedly continue in residential areas in all districts except Buraiqeh. Heavy clashes took place in Dar Sad District affecting many residential homes during the night of 7 – 8 May. Local authorities report that following fifteen days without water, most areas of Craiter and Al Mualla districts now have water for a couple of hours a day, but not in Al Mansura, Dar Sad and Ash Shaikh Outhman districts.
On 7 May fighting and airstrikes hit Sa’ada Governorate building, a popular market in Sa’adah and a school in Al Mahwit Governorate. On 8 May, airstrikes were reported in districts on the border of Saudi Arabia and Sa'ada Governorate, in Yemen. Airstrikes , shelling, and armed clashes were also reported in Haradh and Midi districts in Hajjah Governorate on May 7 and 8. Partners report increasing insecurity and difficulty delivering aid in Haradh, Hajjah Governorate.
