Yemen – Conflict (ECHO, UN) (ECHO Daily Flash of 19 April 2016)

  • The new round of peace talks expected to start on 18 April has been delayed as representatives of Ansarallah and the General people Congress failed to show up in Kuwait. The UNSE for Yemen called on all parties to “take their responsibilities seriously and agree on comprehensive solutions”.
  • On 18 April, the EU urged all parties to engage without preconditions, in good faith and in a constructive manner in negotiations. The EU High Representative also called on parties to fully abide by the terms of the ongoing ceasefire and to guarantee safe, rapid and unhindered access for humanitarian assistance in line with International Humanitarian Law, reminding that the cessation of hostilities is essential to provide life-saving assistance to millions of people in hard-to reach areas in Yemen.
  • On 13 and 14 April, heavy rains across the country caused floods and landslides affecting over 4 000 households and causing damage to houses, crops and vital infrastructure. Humanitarian agencies on the ground acted quickly by delivering shelter items and NFI kits in Amran, Hodeidah and Hajjah, and assessing needs in other affected areas.
