HIGHLIGHTS
• Precipitation Trends: In February 2025, Yemen continued to experience a dry season with minimal rainfall, exacerbating water scarcity across the country.
• Rainfall Anomalies: Overall, rainfall distribution was near normal, but there were localized deficits along the Arabian Sea coast, in Socotra, and the Central Highlands and Southern Uplands. In contrast, positive anomalies were observed in the Eastern Plateau.
• Temperature Patterns: Typical dry-season temperatures persisted, with regional variations. While there were no extreme anomalies, agricultural areas faced potential heat stress due to water scarcity.
• Vegetation Performance: Uneven vegetation performance was noted, as persistent dry conditions limited growth in eastern and coastal areas. However, localized irrigation and residual moisture led to moderate improvements in some areas, raising concerns for the upcoming spring planting season.
• Impacts on Agricultural Livelihoods and Food Security: Agrometeorological conditions in February 2025 worsened agricultural situation in Yemen. This was due to delayed planting, poor soil moisture, groundwater depletion, reduced livestock fodder, and rising food prices. Additionally, reliance on irrigation and distress sales of livestock further strained rural livelihoods.
