Key Highlights;

  • Yemen is among the most food-insecure countries globally. According to recent IPC projections, by September 2025, 18.1 million people will be facing IPC phase 3 or above, and the number of districts classified under IPC Phase 4 (Emergency) is expected to reach 165 districts, along with a cluster of three additional districts. Furthermore, households in IPC Phase 5 (Catastrophe) are also expected to emerge in at least four districts during the projection period.
  • WFP food security monitoring data revealed that the prevalence of inadequate food consumption hit record highs in June 2025, with 67% unable to meet their basic food needs. Severe food deprivation also peaked in June (42% in IRG areas and 40% in SBA areas), with higher proportion observed in Lahj, Amran, Al Jawf, Abyan, and Ad Dali’ governorates.
  • Household resilience has been largely exhausted, as nearly 4 in every 5 households found themselves with no savings for further coping. Around 44% are already employing severe food-based coping strategies in June 2025, with higher rates among female-headed households (53%) compared to their male-headed counterparts (43%).
  • IDPs are among the most vulnerable households in Yemen, with 27% of IDPs reported having at least one member who went an entire day and night without eating due to lack of food, compared to 16% among residents. IDPs in camps are worse-off in terms of food consumption and coping capacity compared to those in host communities.
  • The Riyal hit another all-time low in June against the dollar in IRG areas, losing 33 percent year-on-year and driving food and fuel prices to their highest levels on record. Food remains unaffordable nationwide, with worsening economic hardship leaving at least 74% of the population in extreme poverty, according to the World Bank projections.
  • Red Sea ports saw a sharp decline in imports, with fuel imports hitting their lowest monthly level recorded since the truce in April 2022. In contrast, Aden and Mukalla ports witnessed stable fuel imports and a rise in food imports compared to the same period last year.
  • Meanwhile, WFP is preparing to complete the unfinished TEFA Cycle 2 in 25 remaining districts under SBA areas, targeting 803,000 people. Additionally, Cycle 4 in IRG areas is ongoing to reach 3.4 million people.
