Food and Fuel Discharged in January 2023

  • There was a 44% decrease in food discharged in January 2023 (190,722 t) compared to the 2022 monthly average (342,215 t) and a 36% decrease compared to the monthly average since May 2016 (296,242 t).

  • There was a 31% increase in fuel discharged in January 2023 (235,941 t) compared to the 2022 monthly average (179,648 t) and a 68% increase compared to the monthly average since May 2016 (140,746 t).

Food and Fuel Vessel Delays in January 2023

■ In January 2023, food vessels spent an average of 1.0 days in the Coalition holding area (CHA), 1.2 days in anchorage, and 5.0 days at berth. This compares to an average of 2.7 days in the CHA, 1.2 days in anchorage, and 9.8 days at berth in January 2022. Food vessels therefore spent 63% less time in the CHA, 33% less time in anchorage, and 49% less time at berth, compared to January 2022.

■ In January 2023, 11 food vessels proceeded from the CHA to anchorage; 8 berthed; and 8 discharged their cargo and sailed.

■ In January 2023, the average time spent by fuel vessels in the CHA was 4.3 days, whereas it was 45.2 days on average in January 2022, or an 90% decrease year-on-year. In comparison to the 2022 monthly average of 73.3 days,
January 2023 saw a 96% decrease.

■ Nine (09) fuel vessels were permitted from the CHA to anchorage; eight (08) berthed; and nine (09) discharged their cargo and sailed during the reporting month.
