UNMHA Head of Mission concludes a week-long regional visit to Saudi Arabia and Jordan [EN/AR]

HUDAYDAH, 21 November 2024 — The Head of Mission for the United Nations Mission to support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA), Gen. (Ret.) Michael Beary, has concluded a week-long regional visit to Saudi Arabia and Jordan, aimed at strengthening cooperation and advancing the Mission’s objectives on the ground.

In Riyadh, Gen. Beary held constructive discussions with H.E. Shaiee Zindani, the Government of Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and General Mohammed Eidah, the co-chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee, as well as senior Saudi military officials. He also engaged with diplomatic representatives, including members of the United Nations Security Council.

In Amman, the Head of Mission continued his engagements with Member State representatives, including EU ambassadors and UN counterparts.

These high-level meetings provided a vital platform to brief on the situation in Hudaydah and progress in implementing UNMHA’s mandate. Gen. Beary highlighted several critical initiatives, including efforts to advance Women, Peace, and Security, the implementation of quick impact projects to support local communities, and ongoing work in mine action which remains vital to protecting the civilian population. Discussions also focused on providing updates concerning key progress to advance UNMHA’s establishment of a physical presence in Al Khawkhah District, Hudaydah Governorate.

The Mission remains committed to supporting the implementation of the Hudaydah Agreement and undertaking all efforts to progress peace and stability in the Hudaydah governorate.
