UAE President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered to build a thousand houses for those who lost homes in the recent floods in Yemen.
The tropical storm and torrential rain which hit largely the eastern province of Hadhramawt earlier last month had caused extensive damage in the region. Hundreds of homes made of mud brick had collapsed in the flooding.
Following Sheikh Khalifa's orders, HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of UAE and Chairman of UAE Red Crescent Authority (UAERCA) have given directives for the immediate implementation of the Presidential orders.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of UAERCA Dr. Ali Abdullah Al Ka'abi said that preparatory works have already started to construct the houses as per the orders, to alleviate the sufferings of the flood victims.
Several parts of Yemen, including the capital Sana'a were affected in the flash floods which swept away many homes.
Dr. Al Ka'abi said that the developmental projects ordered by the President will constitute the second phase of the already running humanitarian works of UAERCA, which rushed to Yemen with relief aid in the aftermath of the devastating floods.
The directives given by the prudent leadership of UAE mirror the great humanitarian concern of the country, and the RCA will intensify its efforts to bring the life back to normalcy in Yemen, Al Ka'abi added. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
