Through the winding and treacherous roads that lead through the towering peaks and rugged terrain, the people of Marib Alwadi district in Marib, ranging from the elderly to children, pregnant women and newborns, have been facing numerous struggles. Due to their remote location and lack of transportation networks, they often cannot access the medical care they need. Additionally, the medical care they do receive is far from them and not qualified in their services. They have faced inaccurate diagnoses, medication errors, as well as inappropriate or unnecessary treatments.
The clinical facilities are unsafe, and practices are hazardous. The residents of this district are in dire need of adequate and reliable medical attention. Fortunately, Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA), with the support of Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), has come forward to provide vital services that have restored the functionality of two key facilities in the Marib and Marib Alwadi districts. With a total population of over 87,000 people, Al Shaheed Mohammed Hail hospital and Al Hani Health Unit play an essential role in promoting the health and well-being of the local community. YFCA has achieved this by offering incentives for health workers, providing them with appropriate training, and supplying essential medical resources and materials for infection control. YFCA have also worked to raise public awareness about good health practices. The tireless dedication of the health facilities’ management has been key to achieve these successes.
After the YFCA intervention with the support of YHF, the residents of the district began receiving proper medical attention and free medications at the local facility, rather than traveling long distances. It was made possible by the presence of qualified midwives, reproductive health services, general practitioners; a full team of medical staff and the full operation of the healthcare facilities at Al Shaheed Mohammed Hail hospital and Al Hani Health Unit.
In the first two months, the medical facilities received a significant number of visitors, exceeding the projects target. Consequently, the two medical facilities became the first stop for the surrounding community and the broader districts. YFCA and YHF have altered the perception of health care in the district by building the capacity and efficiency of the healthcare system, making life easier for people, reducing their suffering, and levitating their pain.
