INTRODUCTION
This report presents an overview of the recent floods' impact on the agricultural sector in Yemen. Triggered by heavy rains in August 2024, during the peak of the Kharif rainy season, the flooding severely affected agricultural communities in the western highlands and low-lying areas. Agriculture, being a crucial source of livelihood in Yemen, faces significant implications for food security and the overall economy due to the flood damage
SUMMARY OF KEY FINDINGS
• Flood-Affected Area: 341,296 hectares
• Urban and Rural Flood Impact (settlement areas): 217 hectares
• Population Directly Affected: 210,084 individuals
• Agricultural Land Damaged: 98,726 hectares (including herbaceous crops, shrub crops, orchards, and date palms)
• Livestock Impact: 279,400 ruminants (sheep and goat) affected
• Irrigation Infrastructure: Significant damage to irrigation channels and water storage facilities, hindering recovery efforts
• Food Security Consequences: Crop loss and reduced agricultural income are expected to exacerbate existing food insecurity, which is already critical due to ongoing conflict and economic instability
