Sana’a – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has provided shelter assistance to nearly 3,400 displaced families and distributed essential household items to 14,000 families across Yemen in 2024, thanks to the generous $7 million USD contribution from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief).

With millions uprooted by Yemen’s instability, access to adequate shelter is not just about protection—it is a lifeline that allows families to rebuild with dignity. Alongside shelter, non-food items (NFIs) such as blankets, mattresses, and kitchen sets help families meet their most urgent needs.

“This critical support from KSrelief has provided thousands of displaced families with the stability they desperately need, protecting them from exposure to the natural elements and providing safety for family members,” said Marin Kajdomcaj, UNHCR Representative in Yemen. “But as displacement in Yemen continues, more families are in urgent need of shelter and relief. Sustained support is essential to ensure no one is left behind.”

Yemen remains one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world, with 4.8 million internally displaced people and over 19.5 million in need of assistance. The country also hosts more than 60,000 refugees and asylum seekers, primarily from Somalia and Ethiopia.

UNHCR remains committed to working with KSrelief and other partners to ensure that displaced families receive the shelter and support they need to rebuild their lives. As needs continue to grow, additional support is essential to expand life-saving assistance across Yemen.

“We are pleased to partner with UNHCR to deliver vital shelter and relief assistance to displaced families in Yemen to ensure they receive essential support, allowing them to rebuild their lives with dignity and stability. We are keen to ease their suffering and empower them to create a brighter future”, said Mr. Fahad Al-Osaimi, Head of the Urgent Aid Department at KSRelief.
