SITUATION OVERVIEW

During September 2024, the situation in Yemen remained to be complex, with continued airstrikes and growing humanitarian needs. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) continued to implement multisectoral programming for the most vulnerable internally displaced persons (IDPs), migrants and host community members.

Over the course of the month, IOM completed the Al Makha water supply project, marking the culmination of nearly three years of efforts to bring fresh water to more than 120,000 internally displaced persons and host community members in Al Makha City. On 2 October, IOM, together with local authorities, community representatives, donors and partners, participated in an inauguration event to celebrate the activation of this critical intervention.

On 29 September, as reported by local and international media outlets, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conducted 13 airstrikes targeting multiple locations in Hodeidah City, including Hodeidah Port, Ras Issa Port, Al-Hali power station, and Al Kateeb power station. Reports from media outlets and the UN Security Council’s October 2024 Monthly Forecast for Yemen indicate that at least four civilians were killed, and at least 29 were injured. The second round of strikes have been condemned by spokespersons from both the Internationally Recognized Government (IRG) and Ansarallah (AA).
