The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, announced that, based on information received from the OIC mission to Yemen, it turns out that the scope and size of material and human losses in areas affected by the floods which swept through eastern Yemen, exceed what has been reported by the media.
The Secretary General stated that the humanitarian situation in those areas is catastrophic, noting in this regard that the Yemeni government, the OIC and humanitarian relief organizations face great difficulty in delivering humanitarian assistance to the affected areas.
Ihsanoglu called upon the OIC Member States to provide helicopters to assist the Yemeni government and humanitarian aid organizations to deliver relief material urgently to affected areas.
