Empowering communities through awareness - CHNVs lead the change in nutrition, health, and hygiene

Attachments

In Dhamar City, a dedicated network, of Community Health and Nutrition Volunteers (CHNVs), has become a cornerstone of the Provision of Health and Nutrition Life-Saving Assistance project, implemented by Building Foundation for Development (BFD) with support from Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF). Through this initiative, CHNVs play a critical role in bringing lifesaving messages, nutritional support, and behavioural change awareness directly to families within their communities.

Each month, CHNVs conduct IYCF (Infant and Young Child Feeding) and SBC (Social and Behavioural Change) sessions for mothers, providing essential counseling on exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and hygiene practices. They also perform nutrition screening (MUAC measurement) for children under five and pregnant and lactating women (PLWs), identifying malnourished cases early and referring them to the nearest OTP/TSFP centres supported by the project.
