We regret to inform you of a tragic incident that has occurred off the coast of Radoum District in Shabwa Governorate, southeast Yemen. A boat carrying approximately 200 African migrants capsized in the area of Al-Gharif in Shabwa, leading to the deaths of dozens of individuals.
So far, 38 bodies have been recovered, including 10 women under the age of 20. Miraculously, 71 migrants survived the incident and managed to reach the shores of Radoum District. However, the fate of 151 migrants remains unknown as they are still missing.
The search and rescue operations are ongoing, carried out with limited resources and self-directed efforts. Shabwa has long been a primary transit point for African migrants coming from the Horn of Africa, serving as a critical but perilous stop in their journey towards unauthorized migration.
We urgently appeal for immediate assistance and support in our search and rescue efforts. The scale of this disaster requires substantial resources and expertise to locate the missing individuals and to provide aid to the survivors.
