Agrometeorological Early Warning Bulletin (01 - 10 June 2025) [EN/AR]

Attachments

Yemen is forecasted to experience above-average temperatures and below-normal rainfall in early June 2025, with extreme heat expected in the eastern regions and lowlands. These dry conditions are likely to delay planting and place stress on crops, livestock, and water resources.

Key Concerns:

Low Rainfall: After an extended period of low precipitation, below-average rainfall is expected to continue across most of Yemen during the first dekad of June 2025, especially in the northern and western highlands (e.g., Sana’a, Amran, Al Mahwit Governorates). Isolated light showers (not exceeding 40mm) may occur in southern high-altitude areas such as Ibb, but are unlikely to significantly replenish soil moisture. Eastern and coastal regions (e.g., Hadramaut, Al Mahrah, Al Hudaydah) are expected to remain predominantly dry.

Elevated Temperatures: Yemen is anticipated to continue experiencing extremely high temperatures. Daytime highs of 44–45°C are forecast in eastern desert areas such as Hadramaut and Al Mahrah, while temperatures between 40 and 42°C are expected in Marib, Al Jawf, Shabwah, and the coastal regions along the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (see Fig. 1). These conditions significantly increase the risk of heatwaves and drought-related stress on crops, water resources, and livestock health and productivity.

Dust and Wind Conditions: Moderate to high dust activity is expected in desert and transitional zones due to strong seasonal winds, particularly in northern Hadramaut and Al Maharah, where intensity levels may reach 500 to 2000 µg/m³. Most parts of the country will experience moderate dust levels between 200 and 500 µg/m³, with some exceptions along the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden coastal areas (see Fig. 2). This phenomenon could pose significant health risks to humans and animals, as well as negatively impact crops.
