Acute food insecurity levels remained alarmingly high in 2024, driven by escalating conflicts, the impacts of El Niño, and persistent economic challenges. In the 74 countries where WFP had an operational presence, an estimated 343 million people faced acute hunger, including 44.4 million at emergency or worse levels of food insecurity. A record 1.9 million people faced catastrophic hunger, particularly in conflict-affected areas such as Sudan, Haiti, Mali, Gaza, and South Sudan.

In 2024, WFP and its partners reached 124.4 million people, including 90 million through emergency operations. WFP distributed 2.5 million mt of food and transferred USD 2.2 billion in cash-based assistance.

The Annual Performance Report 2024 of the World Food Programme provides aggregated results on WFP’s global performance, describing who was assisted, how beneficiaries were assisted, how funds were used, and what results have been achieved.
