This views piece was written to highlight the critical need to strengthen maternal care within the management of small and nutritionally at-risk infants under six months and their mothers (MAMI) approach, and to emphasise the key themes in mother-infant care that have emerged from recent work led by the Emergency Nutrition Network.

Drawing on insights from policy analysis, implementation research, and programmatic experiences, we explore gaps, challenges, and opportunities to better support mothers as an integral part of care for small and nutritionally at-risk infants under six months. By bringing attention to these issues, we aim to inform and inspire action towards more holistic, integrated, and impactful maternal-infant care.
