Introduction
This document is a summary of the workshop Route Based Programming, organized by IOM and CashCap/NORCAP, with the support of WFP, UNICEF, and Save the Children, took place in Panama City on December 10-11, 2024. The event was attended by over 40 participants representing 17 different organizations working at both regional and field levels.
The document includes a summary of the workshop with its key outcomes and a visual record of the two days of dialogue.
Workshop Objective
The overall objective of the event was to strengthen dialogue and collaboration among organizations involved in responding to migration and displacement flows in the region, with the aim of identifying the next steps for Route-Based Programming (RBP) in 2025.
The specific objectives were:
- To disseminate results and share experiences related to Route-Based Programming.
- To facilitate an inclusive inter-agency dialogue on Route-Based Programming.
- To enhance understanding and familiarity with Route-Based Programming concepts.
- To identify opportunities for synergy and joint actions among stakeholders for Route-Based Programming.
- To assess technical capacity gaps for Route-Based Programming.
Next Steps
The workshop evaluation by participants strongly confirmed the need to advance Route-Based Programming in 2025. There is a clear willingness to move beyond dialogue, mutual respect, and technical and strategic collaboration among actors, towards integrating Route-Based Programming into planning processes. This will require leadership and time.
