The State of the World's Mothers 2000 documents conditions for mothers in 106 countries and creates a first-ever Mothers' Index that shows where mothers do best and where they face the greatest hardships.

Based on information published by governments, research institutions, and international agencies, the report seeks to complements other reports such as UNICEF's State of the World's Children and the UNDP Human Development Report and Gender Development Index.
