Insecurity Insight documented 247 publicly reported incidents of conflict-related sexual violence between 01 January and 30 November 2025 in 31 countries and territories. Women and girls were most frequently targeted, facing sexual assault, gang rapes and threats of sexual violence, while men and boy were also subject to threats of sexual violence, genital mutilation, and forced nudity. Over a third of the publicly reported incidents took place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Sudan. In the DRC, women and girls were sexually assaulted by various conflict parties, including the FARDC, the M23, Wazalendo, and the Raiya Mutomboki, a Mai-Mai group active in South Kivu. In Sudan, almost 80% of incidents were attributed to the RSF who raped, stripped naked and threatened sexual violence women and girls inside their homes, in displacement camps, whilst traveling or after they were kidnapped.

This News Brief bears testimony to the brave survivors who speak about sexual violence by state bodies or conflict actors. Most events of violence are never reported. This compilation is neither complete nor representative of the extent or nature of sexual violence in general. It brings together dispersed accounts about survivors from around the world who broke the silence.

Burundi
13 December 2025: In Burengo hill, Matongo commune, Butanyerera province, a woman was found dead and was suspected to have been sexually assaulted by two young Imbonerakure members. Source: African Public Radio
30 December 2025: In Kibenga hill, Gitaramuka zona, Karusi commune, Gitega province, a 14-year-old girl was raped by a member of the National Council for the Defense of Democracy – Forces for the Defense of Democracy (CNDD-FDD) in a stable. Around 30 December 2025: In Ndélé city, Bamingui-Bangoran prefecture, a woman was beaten and tortured after refusing sexual advances from a police officer while she was detained in a police cell following a personal dispute with a neighbour. She was refused medical attention, and the case was taken to the prosecutor's office. Source: CNC
Chad
09 December 2025: Near Goz Beida town, Sila region, two Sudanese girls, aged between 12 and 13, were raped by four armed Chadian men as they were leaving the Kounongou refugee camp to gather firewood. The perpetrators were arrested whilst one of the girls received medical care. Source: Radio Dabanga
Democratic Republic of the Congo
25-26 November 2025: In Nyachigore village, Kalehe territory, South Kivu province, 12 people, including six minors aged 15 to 16, were raped by multiple armed men across 11 homes. All received medical treatment within 72 hours. Source: OCHA SK Flash 12
10 December 2025: In Baraka city, Fizi territory, South Kivu province, an unspecified number of women were raped by FARDC members after their withdrawal from Uvira upon the arrival of M23. Source: ACLED1
13 December 2025: At Vulamba roundabout, Ngere district, Kimemi commune, Butembo city, North Kivu province, a man in his twenties was found dead and half naked with his hands bound with whip marks on his body, particularly on his buttocks. Source: La Prunelle

29 December 2025: In Makobola town, Fizi territory, South Kivu province, an unspecified number of women were raped by members of the FARDC and Wazalendo after they raided the town. 14 December 2025: In Arnogarno kebele, Libo-Kemkem woreda, South Gondar zone, Ambhara region, a 10-year-old girl was raped by an unspecified number of ENDF members after breaking into her house during the night. Her mother found the girl bleeding in a nearby street. Whilst seeking medical aid, soldiers allegedly intervened and forcibly took both of them to a military camp to prevent disclosure of the incident. Source: Amhara War Updates
Around 21 December 2025: In Tija Goter Mekentiya area, Debre Elias town and district, East Gojam zone, Amhara region, three young women were found killed with possible signs of sexual assault by Fano militants after being accused of spying for government security forces. District communication officials denied the girls’ involvement in espionage, describing them instead as day labourers. The central leadership of the Amhara Fano forces rejected the sexual assault allegations. Source: BBC
