This document is a quick guide to doing a rapid
environmental impact assessment (REA) in a disaster. It is based on the
Guidelines for Rapid
Environmental Impact Assessment in Disasters.
It focuses specifically on the steps and forms necessary to complete a
REA. And does not include the background information, guidance and references
contained in the Guidelines. The following main issues are discussed:
- Organization level assessment
- Community level assessment
- Consolidation and analysis of assessment
results
- Green review of relief procurement.
Developed as part of a collaborative effort
of CARE International and Benfield Hazard Research Centre, University College
London, the document is particularly useful for people directly involved
in disaster response operations with a basic knowledge of the disaster
management process.
