- The report of the 41st meeting of the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee on international spread of poliovirus has been published, following the Committee’s meeting in March. The Committee reviewed the data on WPV1 and circulating variant polioviruses (cVDPVs), in the context of the global target of interruption and certification.
Summary of new polioviruses this week, cases and positive environmental isolates:
- Afghanistan: eight WPV1-positive environmental samples
- Pakistan: 25 WPV1-positive environmental samples
- Chad: three cVDPV2 cases and three cVDPV2-positive environmental samples
- Djibouti: seven cVDPV2-positive environmental samples
- Ethiopia: eleven cVDPV2 cases
- Niger: one cVDPV2 case
- Occupied Palestinian territory: one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample
- Papua New Guinea: one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample
