Intergovernmental Organizations’ Cooperation on Anticipatory Action: The Path Forward

Attachments

As climate shocks and complex emergencies grow more frequent and severe, intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) are stepping up to support a proactive shift in disaster risk governance. The Path Forward outlines an emerging collaboration among IGOs to institutionalize anticipatory action. This joint initiative, while still in its infancy stages, brings together regional and multi-regional IGOs from Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East. With governments at its core, the Cooperation is designed to strengthen early warning systems, explore scaling up of anticipatory action financing, build national capacities, and elevate anticipatory action global policy processes. The paper presents the Cooperation’s vision thus far and core pillars serving as both a blueprint for future discussions and scale up.
