This paper is the Inauguration address
for the Irwin H. Rosenberg Professorship of Nutrition and Human Security
and starts with the following lines:
Human security is not rocket science.
It is the sum of all those things which make you feel secure: a job, education,
the rule of law, freedom from fear, or reliable and safe food. And if you
are secure and your friends are secure, then so too is your community.
Human security, unlike national security, is therefore indivisible. You
depend upon the commodity chain I am part of. Your small arms supply fuels
my war. My pollution drives your climate change.
