Excellencies, Ladies, and Gentlemen.
Thank you for joining us today. I am delighted to share the podium today with my dear friend Albert of Zimbabwe, with whom it has been a pleasure to be working as part of the ECOSOC Bureau and as co-chair of the ECOSOC Meeting on Transition from Relief to Development.
It is also a pleasure to welcome Ms. Heli Uusikyla, Acting Director of OCHA’s Operations and Advocacy Division, who will speak about the work of the humanitarian community in these extraordinarily challenging times.
A few housekeeping matters: Those in the room, please raise your hand to ask for the floor and the DGACM Secretary will call on you. Those participating online should be able to register for the floor using the Webex platform which is managed by our DGACM colleagues who we thank for their precious support.
As you know, today's briefing is intended to provide information on the preparations for the ECOSCOC Transition Meeting, which will be co-chaired by Italy and Zimbabwe and the ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment, which will be chaired only by Italy, from 20 to 23 June in Geneva.
Please join me in welcoming Ambassador Chimbindi of Zimbabwe, who will explain to you preparations for the Transition Meeting. After he speaks, I will explain preparations for the ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment. Following this briefing, the Acting Director of the Operations and Advocacy Division, Ms. Heli Uusikyla, will present an overview of the Report of the Secretary-General on the "Strengthening of the coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance of the United Nations". After these remarks, participants will have a chance to offer their observations.
I now give the floor to His Excellency, Ambassador Chimbindi to brief us on the preparations for the ECOSOC Transition meeting.
