What is debris?

The damage and destruction of structures and infrastructure (including cultural heritage sites) during emergencies can lead to the creation of building waste and rubble. This is known as debris. Clearing away crisis-generated debris is a critical part of relief and recovery efforts and therefore managing debris is key after a conflict or disaster, both in the short and longterm.
