Africa Weather Hazards
Widespread flooding persists in West Africa; while abnormally hot conditions are forecasted in East Africa and Southern Africa.
- The Sudd wetlands in South Sudan remain inundated.
- Heavy rainfall in eastern Sudan and western Ethiopia has caused flooding. The forecasted heavy rainfall over Ethiopia increases flood risks in Afar, Djibouti, and southern Eritrea.
- Severe flooding persists in Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, northern Sierra Leone, central and southern Mali, Senegal, southern Niger, northern Nigeria, Central and southern Chad, and northern Cameroon.
- The central portion of the Gulf of Guinea experiences abnormally dry conditions due to inadequate rainfall since June. Dry spells have led to drought in Ghana. Eastern Nigeria, central and eastern Cameroon are experiencing abnormal dryness and drought as a result of a poor rainfall distribution since early April.
- Southeastern Ethiopia and central Somalia are experiencing abnormal dryness due to below-average rainfall since late September.
- Abnormally hot conditions are forecasted over equatorial East Africa and central Southern Africa.
