Start of seasonal rainfall delayed over parts of Eastern Horn of Africa

Africa Weather Hazards

  1. Below-average rainfall since late September has increased moisture deficits and worsened ground conditions across eastern Kenya, southern Somalia, and southeastern Ethiopia.

  2. Below-average rainfall since late September has strengthened moisture deficits and led to abnormal dryness in north-central Angola and southeastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

  3. Locusts have been reported in North Kordofan and northwest of Khartoum regions, according to local authorities of Sudan. Control operations are in progress.

  4. Locusts have been reported in western Mauritania. Ground control operations are in progress, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Central Asia Weather Hazards

  1. An abnormal cold hazard is posted for northeast Kazakhstan where minimum temperatures are forecast to fall below -10 degrees C which is 4 to 8 degrees C below normal for this time of year.

Central America and the Caribbean Weather Hazards

  1. Below-average rainfall over the past several weeks has led to growing rainfall deficits and abnormal dryness throughout much of Haiti and neighboring western Dominican Republic.
