Dryness persists in East Africa with drought in Ethiopia; flooding continues in West Africa

Africa Weather Hazards

  1. Flooding persists in the Sudd wetlands in northern South Sudan.

  2. Western South Sudan, central and northeastern DRC, and southwestern Uganda experience moderate to large seasonal rainfall deficits.

  3. Below-average rainfall has maintained abnormal dryness in Liberia.

  4. Floods continue along Nigeria's Niger and Benue Rivers and the Blue Nile in eastern Sudan.

  5. Floods due to heavy rainfall continue in Chad and northern Nigeria.

  6. Western Mali, eastern Nigeria, west Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea are abnormally dry due to ongoing below-average rainfall.

  7. Heavy rainfall has caused rivers to rise in central Mali. Flooding has eased marginally in northern Ghana and Togo but is unchanged in northwestern DRC.

  8. Southwestern Cameroon and southwestern Somalia experience flooding.

  9. Abnormal heat forecasted for Western Sahara, Morocco, northwestern Mauritania, western Eritrea, and northern and western Ethiopia.
